Nutritious Smoothie Ideas
There are numerous examples of smoothie recipes. Be adventurous! The following are some suggested additions
Handful of greens (e.g. spinach, kale, or Swiss chard)
Anti-oxidants, iron and vitamins
Handful of berries which have lower sugar content
Anti-oxidants
Fruits particularly those with lower sugar content such as papaya, oranges, melons and cantaloupe
Frozen fruits can add thickness
1 banana can add thickness
Adds fibre + magnesium, will up the sugar content
1/2 Avocado
antioxidants and adds good fats
Protein 1-2 tbs of a nut butter (e.g. peanut, almond, cashew) or protein powder (e.g. whey, pea or hemp) or greek yogurt
1-2 tbs of nutritional yeast
Packed with B vitamins
Cheesy taste
1-2 tbs of chia seeds/ hemp hearts/ ground up flax seeds
Provides Omega 3 fats, and iron
Chia seeds can thicken quickly
Liquid (e.g plain yogurt, milk, plant based milk, or juice but remember juice will up the sugar content)
