Academic Accommodations

Academic accommodations are put into place in order to help a child achieve their full potential and their own personal success. Don’t be afraid to talk to Guidance and or health care providers who can provide written comformation of ongoing difficulties or disorders.

  • Extra time for tests and assignments

  • Presentations done one-on-one when students have anxiety in particular social anxiety

  • A different weighing percentage so there is less for class participation in the presence of social anxiety

  • Reduced course load

  • Opportunity to go to Guidance if overwhelmed

  • Buddy system for missed notes or homework

  • Leniency for lateness if a child has sleep issues or fatigue

  • Computer access for class and tests

  • Lesson notes given ahead of time by teachers

  • Formula sheets for math, chemistry physics formulas and reminders, helpful when there are working memory issues and or significant anxiety or possible slower processing with depression, bipolar disorder and learning disabilities

  • After a hypomanic or manic episode with bipolar disorder or manic depressive illness, even after the symptoms settle there may be ongoing problems with learning new information i.e. slower processing speed and also more difficulty doing math i.e. likely problems with working memory.
