Grounding Techniques to Alleviate Anxiety
Here is a list of a few techniques that can help you to alleviate anxious thoughts:
Using a slinky toy
Throwing a pillow back and forth to another person with or without conversation
Petting an animal
Focus on something that engages your sense of smell, touch, taste, hearing, or sight, e.g. outdoors without a cell phone, hot cup of tea
Simple stretching exercises with focus on contracting and releasing muscles, e.g. lookup “Anderson Stretches”
Using s stretch band, e.g. gently expanding the chest while squeezing shoulder blades together and enjoy the release especially after computer or cell phone use.
Slack lining or other activites that require balance
trampoline
allowing a cube of ice to melt on your hand
